Securing Abandon buildings & Job sites
I'm making this page about electronic security because...Someone broke into a city of Palo Alto utility yard and took nearly $14,000 worth of copper wire, tubing and equipment. Even now, when copper thefts appear in police logs fairly regularly, this one stands out. I'm not sure how much copper stuff is around the typical construction site, but I'm guessing it's a lot less than $14,000 worth. (Last time I looked, the price of copper was about $4 a pound)And in Southern California...'We've been dealing with construction site theft for a long time now,' said Frank Williams, chief executive officer of the Building Industry Association Baldy View Chapter. 'It's more prevalent now because thieves are going in and getting the coils out of condensers in new homes.' Scrap theft losses have cost builders more than $25 million in San Bernardino County alone, Williams said.Compounding the material losses, builders are forced to shell out for lighting, cameras and security guards in an effort to curb theft, Williams said. The cost of additional surveillance is substantial, Williams said.'When you add two or three extra security guards to a site, that's three eight-hour shifts,' he said. 'That's like having nine full-time people.'(see photo)Strands of wire hang from the roof as San Bernardino Police Department Forensic Specialist Christina Sanchez takes photographs following a metal-theft incident May 19I knew something had to be done...
